Question
My WWW service has started to use between 90-100% of the available CPU time. Why might this be?
Answer
It’s possible that your timed events file on your server has become corrupted. If this happens the WWW service can consume 100% cpu at startup time.
To resolve this, open your existing timed.txt file in the root of the GMS install folder, and check the contents. It should look something like this:
"CheckGMSUpdates","0000-00-00 02:00:00",86400,"/security/checkgmsupdates.mml","2005-09-10 02:00:00","0123456","0000-00-00 00:00:00","0000-00-00 23:59:59","-" "CalendarAlarms","0000-00-00 00:00:00",60,"/webmail/calendar/checkalarms.mml","2005-01-01 09:53:00","0123456","0000-00-00 00:00:00","0000-00-00 23:59:59","-" "SaveSetup","0000-00-00 04:00:00",86400,"/system/SendSetupTimed.mml","2005-09-10 00:00:00","0123456","0000-00-00 00:00:00","0000-00-00 23:59:59","-" "LogRules","0000-00-00 03:00:00",86400,"logsrulestimed.mml","2005-09-10 00:00:00","0123456","0000-00-00 00:00:00","0000-00-00 23:59:59","-"
If all you see is either nothing, or block characters, then this file is corrupt. Stop the www (configuration server) service, delete the file, and restart the service. You should then see www cpu usage return to normal.
Next you will need to go to each of the following pages, and press the “Update” button, to reset any timed events in the timed file.
Mail->Security->System Recovery – press update
Mail->Logs->Transaction Save – press update
Mail->Logs->Domain Save – press update for each domain.
Finally, paste the following line into the file:
"CalendarAlarms","0000-00-00 00:00:00",60,"/webmail/calendar/checkalarms.mml","2005-01-01 09:53:00","0123456",
Your system should then be back to it’s correct setting.
