Why is mail for @localhost accepted?

Question

If I send a message to the server addressed to an unknown user @localhost the message is accepted and then loops until it exceeds the hop count.

Answer

We have now altered the way GMS treats mail for the domain "localhost" so that it now correctly handles unknown users @localhost preventing the loop from happening.
