Why doesn't some email get delivered to AOL?

Question

I’m having a problem sending e-mail out to any AOL recipient. It seems that all mail has been initially rejected, then some of it gets through after a number of days.

Answer

The most likely scenario is that the response from DNS is being truncated due to the large number of MX/A records returned by AOL. If there are too many to fit in a single UDP packet, the data gets truncated at the limit of the packet. Switching to using “UDP then TCP if data truncated” on the Outgoing > MX tab will solve the problem. This became the default in version 6 of NTMail.
