Why does the second access to IMAP mailbox fail?

GMS Mail supports multiple access to IMAP folders.

Simply set up each client to access the account using the same username and password on each client. This is especially useful where a team of people may need access to messages in a single location to prevent duplication of effort.

Answer

In some cases, the second client to log into IMAP returned an error. This error was caused by specific clients requesting RFC822.SIZE information multiple times.

IMAP has been modified to allow this command to be issued multiple times.
