Why does the daily total email sent to the postmaster not correctly reflect the total amount of mail passed through SMTP and POST?

Answer

The total reflected in the email is the total number of internal and external messages processed by SMTP. It was never intended to reflect the total number of SMTP and POST messages and therefore the totals may have seemed off at times.

The email produced and sent to the postmaster now specifically identifies the totals as being related to SMTP processed messages only.
