Why does it take so long to transfer a large number of messages between folders?

Question

I am using the english interface.

When I move a large number of messages between folders it seems to take a long time.

Why is this?

Answer

There is a limit placed on the number of messages that can be transferred.
Currently in order to secure against delial of service attacks, we have
limited the movement of messages to only allow 50 messages to be transferred
between folders at a time.

The time delay is introduced by the built-in error handling which has to take
into account GMS Webmail support for multiple languages. Gordano strives to
produce best of breed software at all times, these error controls allow us
to ensure that is the case.

We have now instituted a more streamlined control for English language
interfaces. This has reduced the time it takes to move a small or large
number of messages from one folder to another giving a performance
improvement of up to 30%

We have also introduced gzip to compress web pages and decrease load time.
