Question
When I refresh my browser in GMS Webmail I notice that the browser seems to be reloading everything causing this refresh to take a long time. Why is this?
Answer
GMS Webmail uses javascript as a major part of each page. The inclusion of the javascript within the webpage means if the page is refreshed so too is the javascript and so the server sends the javascript multiple times..
We have now separated the javascript into several files which can be cached by the browser. This leads to a reduction of about 30% in the quantity of data that is required to be transfered.
By reducing the amount of data transferred, this results in an increase in speed when loading or refreshing a page.
