Why are outbound mail queues building up on GMS?

I have recently installed McAfee VirusScan Enterprise on my system and now outbound mail queues are buikding up on my server and I have difficulty connecting to the SMTP Port (Port 25). Why is this?

Answer

McAfee VirusScan Enterprise blocks Port 25 by default tp prevent mass mailing worms from sending mail. It is essential that Port 25 is open on the server GMS is installed on in order to allow mail to flow correctly.

In order to resolve this issue you will need to open the VirusScan Console then right click on the Access Protection entry and select Properties from the menu. Now un check the option Prevent mass mailing worms from sending mail option and click on Apply.

Note: To allow proper functioning of the GMS system it is also essential that you omit all of the GMS directories from being actively scanned. Please see the KB entry below for further information.
