What is the PASS command in POP3?

Question

POP3 has many commands that it can interpret but what is the significance of the PASS command?

Answer

Immediately after the USER command has been acknowledged, the password command, known as PASS, is required to correctly validate the user.
The PASS command requires the user to enter a case sensitive password.

pass <Password>

If using an application such as ‘Telnet’ to connect to your POP3 server, providing your password has been authenticated, you will see this response…

"+OK mailbox locked"

You are now able to access your mail.
