What is TCP/IP?

Question

Answer

Abbreviation for Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol, the suite of communications protocols used to connect hosts on the Internet. All Internet traffic is transmitted using these protocols.

The IP protocol determines how information is delivered over the Internet, i.e it deals with the routing of information. TCP controls the data that is sent over these routes, i.e. it is responsible for splitting of information into small packets for transmission. These packets will contain enough information not only to hold the data but to allow the receiver TCP at the remote end to verify and re-assemble the packets in the correct order, thereby restoring the data.
