What is contained in the Linux hotfix h20060310 released in build 3396?

Question

A problem has been identified whereby if a second "my.cnf" file (MySQL configuration file) resides on the same partition as you try and install GMS to, a conflict arises whereby the wrong my.cnf file is used by the install script.

This will manifest itself in one of two ways as follows:
1. The directory "/opt/gordano/mail/mysql/glwebmail" will not exist.
2. When you log on to GMS you will get an error indicating that the GMS Webmail license has expired.

The fix detailed below will resolve this problem.

Note: You can search for all instances of files called my.cnf on your system, using the command "find / -name my.cnf" from any command shell.

Answer

If you have installed GMS prior to reading this article and the database problem has manifested itself, you will need to completely uninstall GMS and follow the rest of the instructions below.

For new GMS installations please follow these instructions:

These instructions assume that the GMS installation file has already been downloaded, decompressed and unpackaged (untarred) into a temporary directory.

  • From the temporary directory which contains the unpacked files, locate the existing "functions" file and replace it with the one attached to this article.
  • Now run the install script with "./install" to begin the installation process. GMS should now install correctly and the relevant database files be created automaically.

If GMS is already installed follow these instructions:

  • Create a copy of the setup.txt file by typing ./mail -y in the gordano/mail/bin directory.
  • Move the setup.txt to a safe location outside of the gordano folder structure.
  • Uninstall GMS, open a command shell and change to the /opt/gordano/mail directory and run "./uninstall" and answer YES when prompted. Then delete the /opt/gordano directory.

  • If you have not already applied the hotfix h20060228 you will need to apply this first then apply the setup.txt with ./mail -yr
  • Start the services again with ./glmail start
