What is an Archive?

Answer

Archiving provides the ability to store all messages passing through a GMS server to a specific Archive (or Store). This Archive can either be local to the mail server, or more normally at a secure off site location.

Many, if not all business, are now required to archive messages for a period of time. This is particularly true in the Financial Services industry where access to messages may be required to ensure compliance with the many Laws and/or Acts affecting this industry. Further, simply
archiving the messages may cause a liability for the company if the employees are not informed and trained appropriately. Gordano recommend that you approach a qualified lawyer to ascertain how the local laws affect
the requirements to archive all messages.

The Archive can store many months or even years worth of messages. The Archive can then be queried remotely and all messages matching a particular query can be easily and quickly retreived.
