What is Active Directory (AD)?

Answer

Active Directory is based on the LDAP protocol and is part of the Windows 2000 network, integrated to provide a directory service designed for distributed networking environments. Active Directory acts as the central authority for network security, acts as an integration point and provides a single point of management.

Active directory can be used by GMS to authenticate user accounts and if required, access information for mail storage.
