What is a lurker?

Answer

A lurker is seen as someone who is officially part of a discussion list but chooses not take part in an active discussion. It is rare for them to post an e-mail.

Lurkers "lurk" for several reasons: They may be new to the list and don’t feel comfortable expressing their own opinions. They may be too busy to post to the list, but still keep a regular check on list activity and discussion. The larger the list, the larger the number of lurkers.

The GMS Communication Server allows for a level of control over this. You can configure the list server to request an e-mail to be sent to all people reaching the inactivity period specified, requesting that they respond to continue membership of the list. This can be configured from…
GMS Communication Server > Manage > Inactivity
