TCP/IP not detected on installation

Question

When installing GMS Mail for Win95/98, version 5, just before the Installshield Wizard should appear, I’m getting the error message: “The install cannot detect TCP/IP on this machine. Installation cannot proceed.”

Answer

The GMS Mail installation checks to see if TCP/IP is installed by searching under the following registry key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesClassNetTrans

This will only be present if you have TCP/IP installed and an IP Address bound to your network card.

If you see the above message then please check that you have TCP/IP installed properly and that you have an IP address specifically bound to the card. You should not use a dynamically assigned IP address.
