Running GMS Webmail on its own Server directly connected to the Internet

Answer

Set up GMS Webmail on a separate server which you could call, for example glwebmail.mydomain.com, and add all the users you would like to have access to GMS Webmail to this server. These users would then use an email address of the form user@glwebmail.mydomain.com

You will need to set up DNS records for your mail server. A typical example is:

glwebmail.mydomain.com IN MX 10 glwebmail.mydomain.com
glwebmail.mydomain.com IN A 194.205.1.152

Please check the documentation for your DNS server or contact the person running your DNS to make these changes.

Just like a standard mail server, GMS Webmail will automatically post all email out onto the Internet.

If you have users who want to continue to use other email addresses, you can either forward the mail directly to the new server or they could tell GMS Webmail to go and collect the email from the old server.

This can be a useful method of amalgamating a number of disperse accounts into the one place.
