I have upgraded to version 18 and now cannot log in to the admin interface

Question

After upgrading, an administrator/postmaster is not able to log on to the admin interface or is not able to view all of the settings.

Answer

The postmaster account isn’t set to any profile.

The problem is that there isn’t an admin profile setup for the postmaster account to be set to, whilst the system base profile would usually be the default here that doesn’t have any access rights enabled either after an upgrade to V18. Here are some instructions on how to resolve your issue:

  1. Edit the end of the web address for the admin interface from index.mml to oldadmin.mml and log in with the postmaster account credentials
  2. Click on Profiles
  3. Select the System Base Profile
  4. Select the “Clone to” radio button
  5. Name the new profile “admin” or similar and then click Update
  6. Expand the Profiles section down the left hand side
  7. Expand the newly created profile so you can see the options available for that profile
  8. Select “Configuration”
  9. At the bottom of the small window you’ll see 3 options available which are “Manage complete system”, “Manage logs for all domains” and “Manage GMS Anti-Spam and GMS Anti-Virus for all domains”. Select these 3 options and click update
  10. Go to Mail > Users and select the Postmaster account under the domain
  11. Click the Edit tab
  12. Tick the box to the right of the list of users with the heading of “Change Profile” and from the drop down box, select the new Admin profile
  13. Click update

At this point you should be able to sign off, then sign back on again and be able to use the new interface.

If this does not work, it may be that your config access settings are not working

To resolve this,

  1. Edit the end of the web address for the admin interface from index.mml to oldadmin.mml and log in with the postmaster account credentials
  2. Click on Admin > Security and select the Config Access tab
  3. Select all entries and click remove, then update

At this point you should be able to sign off, then sign back on again and be able to use the new interface.
