I am interested in using GMS Mobile Gateway, do I need an SMS provider in order to send SMS messages through GMS Mobile Gateway?

Question

I am interested in using GMS Mobile Gateway to send text messages from GMS Webmail. Do I need an SMS provider in order to do this?

Answer

Yes, Gordano can provide you with the GMS Mobile Gateway activation key, which is currently provided free of charge. However you will need to use an SMS provider to send the SMS messages and these providers will make a charge for each SMS message sent. Charges vary across providers so you should contact a number of them to get a guide on costs.

A number of SMS providers are shown in the GMS Mobile Gateway GUI, however you can add your own preferred SMS provider to this list by editing the files located in the gateways directory under the Gordano base directory.

The actual commands that you will need to enter in the gateway file will vary from provider to provider and you should ask your chosen provider for the commands that you should use.

The default list of SMS providers is:

  • Deltica (www.deltica.com)
  • Hays (www.hsl.uk.com)
  • Kuulalaakeri Oy SMS Service
  • SMS-WAP (www.sms-wap.com)
  • WapMX (www.wapmx.com)

Optionally, you can also configure your own SMS provider, for example, Clickatell (www.clickatell.com)can be set up easily to run with GMS Mobile Gateway – for more information check the see also section at the end of this article.

Costs of running an SMS service vary from provider to provider, and also based on the amount of messages you purchse.

As an example, you can expect to pay between 0.2 and 1.5 Cents (US$ Currency) per SMS message. This is significantly cheaper than a message sent from a GSM cell phone.

Note: It is not normally necessary to use an SMS provider located close to you, or even in the same country as you.
