Does the GMS Anti-Spam Restricted Word check ignore HTML tags?

Question

A new spammer technique is to embed HTML comment tags with a random string of letters within the middle of words to bypass content checks. Does GMS Anti-Spam protect against this trick?

Answer

Yes, GMS Anti-Spam strips all HTML tags out of the content of email messages prior to checking the content of these messages.

This is done automatically, there is no need for any configuration.

Note: Build 3158 and above has the ability to remove HTML tags and/or scan them.

Note: USers of VSM will not benefit from this enhancement as no further improvements are being made to the VSM content scanning DLLs.
