Question
I am using GMS Anti-Virus to protect my mail server from virus attacks. I would like to also ban any files with the extensions DLL or EXE whether or not they contain viruses.
However I am worried that doing so will prevent my server from receiving automatic virus definition updates, which sometimes also include files with the extension DLL.
Answer
Yes.
The attachment banning functionality is aware of the specific files that are required to update a VPP installation.
These files also arrive with encoded information verifying the files as correct for that one particular installation of GMS Anti-Virus. Each installation uses different and changing information to prevent external sources managing to bypass the protection in place.
This means that it is perfectly safe to ban extensions such as DLL and EXE and still be confident that the anti virus updates will arrive on your server automatically.
