Why does a comma in a username cause posts to fail?

Question

When I use the "Reply to all" function in GMS Webmail my posts sometimes fail. The messages I am replying to all have multiple names in the To or CC fields.

One particular message had, as an example, the following CC Clause.

Cc: user01@simon.dom, "User, 02" <user02@simon.dom>, "Fred" fred@simon.dom, user03@simon.dom

Answer

The combinations of quotes and comma’s caused the address handling to split the address at each comma, so that the list of addresses above became:
user01@simon.dom
User
02 <user02@simon.dom>
"Fred" fred@simon.dom
user03@simon.dom

The address handling has been improved in builds 3050 and later to prevent this from happening.
