How can I backup my WorkgroupShare data?

Detail

WorkgroupShare v2

All the WorkgroupShare data on the server that needs to be backed up is located in the WorkgroupShare data folder. The default location of the WorkgroupShare v2 data folder is C:Program FilesCommon FilesSoftalkData, but a custom location may have been chosen during the initial setup. The database file is called SCS.mdb and this is normally located in the root of the data folder. This contains data and the configuration settings. Associated message and attachment files are located in the messages sub folder.

Note: For installations that have been upgraded from WorkgroupShare v1 the original data folder will be in use. The default data folder location in this case is C:Program FilesWorkgroupShareData, but again a custom location may have been chosen. The database file will be called WorkgroupShare.mdb.

Before backing up this data you should consider stopping the WorkgroupShare server as the backup will be more reliable if the database file is not open and the data is static. The service can then be restarted once the backup is complete. When WorkgroupShare is running as a service, this can be done by using the following commands in a scheduled batch file or on a command line.

net stop WorkgroupShare
net start WorkgroupShare

To backup data on a WorkgroupShare client you should make a backup copy of the Outlook PST file. WorkgroupShare v2 stores all Outlook data and WorkgroupShare information inside the PST file at the client. It is advisable to close Outlook before backing up the client PST file, but choosing a quiet period when the data is likely to be static may be adequate.

WorkgroupShare v1

All the WorkgroupShare data on the server that needs to be backed up is located in the WorkgroupShare data folder. The default location of the WorkgroupShare v1 data folder is C:Program FilesWorkgroupShareData, but a custom location may have been chosen during the initial setup. The database file is called WorkgroupShare.mdb and this is normally located in the root of the data folder. This contains data and the configuration settings. Associated attachment files may be found in the messages sub folder.

To backup data on a WorkgroupShare client you should make a backup copy of the Outlook PST file and the WorkgroupShare client data file for each user. The WorkgroupShare client data file can be found in:-

C:Documents and SettingsUserLocal SettingsApplication DataSoftalkWorkgroupShareClientWSClientData.dat

It is advisable to close Outlook before doing the client backup, but choosing a quiet period when the data is likely to be static may be adequate.
