The Softalk Share Server provider cannot be installed on an Exchange Server.

Symptoms

• The following error message is displayed when the message store is configured.

The message store has not been initialized

• Client Setup completes but does not set up the Softalk Share Server message store; Outlook will continue to use a PST file after setup is completed

Cause

An attempt was made to install the Softalk Share Server provider on an Exchange server.

Detail

It is not permissible to install the Softalk Share Server provider (client) on the same computer as Microsoft Exchange. Small Business Server includes a cut-down version of Exchange so this also applies herewith.

The implementation of MAPI on an Exchange server is different from that of a non-Exchange server. The MSMAPI.DLL on an Exchange server is not compatible with Softalk Share Server.

The Softalk Share Server server may be installed on such a computer however, the provider (client) should not.
