The migration of data was interrupted during the client installation, how can I complete this now?

Symptoms

After running the Softalk Share Server client setup:-

  • Outlook lists the PST file as the default message store
  • The Softalk Share Server data store for this client does not contain all of the data
  • The client setup did not complete due to being interrupted
  • Client setup stopped responding and needed to be closed.

Detail

It is quite likely that the original PST file has been left as the default message store in Outlook; the one listed at the top and to which new mail will be delivered. You should make the Softalk Share Server data store be the default store and close the PST file, before you complete the migration of data.

To set the Softalk Share Server data store as the default, open the mail account settings in Outlook and select this as the message store for mail delivery. Alternatively, you can do this in the Mail applet in Control panel.

Restart Outlook for this change to take effect.

Close the PST file by right clicking on it and choosing Close “Personal Folders”.

Complete the migration of Outlook data by using the Outlook Import/Export wizard. Click File >> Import and Export >> Import from another program or file. Choose to import from a Personal Folder File (.pst). Select the file and choose the option Do not import duplicates. Choose to import from the top level, usually Personal Folders, and check the box to include sub folders. Choose to import items into the same folder in the Softalk Share Server message store.
