I don't want to host my own e-mail, but can I still send mail directly?

Detail

Yes. Even if you don’t host your own e-mail domain, you can still send messages directly. You must, however, have a permanent “always on” connection to the Internet. The advantage of sending mail directly (rather than using your ISP to relay the mail) is one of speed. Sending mail directly can be up to 10 times faster than sending through an ISP. Messages sent in this way are sent directly to the recipient mail server rather than being routed through an ISP, with its imposed limitations.

To configure Softalk Mail Server v8, WorkgroupMail v8 and WorkgroupMail v7 to send mail directly, edit the properties for the appropriate domain, select the Sending page and choose Direct. Then edit the SmartHost properties page and on the Servers tab specify a primary and secondary DNS server. Click here for more information.

To configure WorkgroupMail v6 to send mail directly, edit the ISP property sheet, select the Servers page and choose Send mail directly from the bottom drop down list. Then enter the required DNS server addresses. Click here for more information.
