What folder permissions must be set for Softalk Organizer

Symptoms

  • Some data is not displayed.
  • An access/permissions error is reported by the browser when trying to open an object.

Detail

The Softalk Organizer setup program will attempt to set the necessary folder permissions,
however these permission may fail to be set or be set incorrectly for reasons
outside of the control of setup. If in any doubt of the folder permissions, then please set the following permissions.

Note that unless specified otherwise, all permissions should be set to
propagate to sub folders.

Browse to the folders specified below, in turn, using Windows Explorer. Right click
on the concerned folder and choose Properties. Select the security tab and ensure that the accounts defined below have the required permissions.
If an account needs to be added, then click on the Add… button, set the
location, type the name of the account and click OK. Set the permissions by
selecting an account and then checking the checkboxes under permissions for.
If the checkboxes are greyed then the permissions have been inherited from a
parent.

If a JET database is being used, then check the explicit permissions of SCS.mdb and SCS.ldb in the data folder
and ensure that these files are set to inherit permissions from their parent;
navigate to the data folder right click on SCS.mdb select properties, click on
the permission tab and click on the Advanced button. Check the Inherit
from parent the permission entries that apply to child objects. Include these
with entries explicitly defined here
checkbox and click OK. Also perform
this for SCS.ldb if it exists.

Note that on a peer to peer network the Security tab may not be available when viewing the folder properties. Click Tools, Folder options, View and uncheck the option for ‘Use simple file sharing’.

Note that the data folder may be in a location different to that specified above.
In this case, the data folder is the folder that contains the database file. If the database was upgraded from WorkgroupShare v1 then the location of the folder may be %ProgramFiles%WorkgroupShareData.
