WorkgroupMail does not attempt to connect to the ISP.

Symptoms

WorkgroupMail does not attempt to connect to the ISP. This problem can occur when sending mail directly, using the Smart Host capability, and when the DNS server address is set to that of the local WorkgroupMail server computer (which is hosting the DNS).

Cause

If WorkgroupMail tries to connect to the ISP before the DNS service has initialised then this will cause subsequent connection failures.

Resolution

To correct the problem, the WorkgroupMail server program will need to be stopped and restarted.

If WorkgroupMail is configured to connect to the ISP at startup, please add a delay before the first connection to allow time for the DNS service to initialise. Initially set this delay to one minute, increasing the delay (if necessary) in one minute steps. WorkgroupMail will now only attempt to connect after the DNS service has initialised.
