WorkgroupMail cannot connect to the ISP when using a dial up connection.

Symptoms

WorkgroupMail cannot connect to the ISP when using a dial up connection.

Resolution

  • Double click the relevant dial up networking icon in the Dial up Networking folder. If the connection is not made then check that the telephone number has been entered correctly and that the username and password is correct. If the connection is made then do a send/receive from WorkgroupMail to see if it can use the existing connection. In some cases, it may be necessary to delete and re-create the dial up networking connection profile.
  • If WorkgroupMail is running as a service under the context of the Local System Account, change the properties for the service so that it runs under a user account that has full administrative permissions. This can be checked and changed using the Services applet in Control Panel (Administrative Tools).
  • Alternatively, run WorkgroupMail as an executable when logged on to the computer using an Administrative account. To do this, stop the WorkgroupMail service using the Services applet in Control Panel and then run wmsvc.exe (located in the WorkgroupMail installation folder) from the Start menu.
