Why should I change the default access password for my mail server?

Question

When NTMail Version 3 is installed on a server a default account is created to administer the system. This account is also set up with a default password matching the account name.

Answer

Please make sure that the password for this account is changed immediately upon install to ensure that others can not access the account. If you have not changed it previously then please do so now, even if you have subsequently upgraded to a later version.

If others are able to access the account then they may be able to mis use your system depending on your settings.

For new installations from Version 4 onwards the installation always provides the option for you to specify your own password as part of the install process so later installations are not subject to this.
