Why is GMS Anti-Virus sending a virus alert email when scanning fails?

Question

The message I received as postmaster is as follows:

ATTENTION! This message has been sent to you by the NTMail Virus Protection Package.

The message to: vpp@company1.dom, from: user@company2.dom

contains attachments that are infected with a virus.

The infected attachments are:

Regards, the NTMail Virus Protection Package.

Answer

Selecting "When a Scan fails for any other reason: Reject mail and notify postmaster" means that if the virus scanner fails to run for any reason or encounters any problems, GMS Anti-Virus will refuse the email and send a failure message to the postmaster.

The failure message GMS Anti-Virus sends when the scanner fails for a reason other than a virus, has been changed. This message now clearly reflects that fact that there was an internal error, and not a virus, which caused the email to be rejected.

You can set GMS Anti-Virus to reject messages when the scanner fails for any reason in the interface at GMS Anti-Virus>Scanner>Actions>When a Scan fails for any other reason: (select) Reject mail and notify postmaster
