Why has my proxy server stopped working after an upgrade?

Question

I have upgraded my GMS installation from build 3037 or earlier, and my proxy server is no longer working. Why is this?

Answer

For builds higher than 3037, the default setting for the proxy server was changed to disabled, as a security measure to protect against unauthorised use of the proxy service.

You need to log on to GMS and re-enable the proxy service from the Proxy section of the interface.
