Why does nothing happen when I try to open a secondary window in GMS Webmail?

Question

Whenever I try to open a secondary window in GMS Webmail nothing happens. For example, I am trying to compose a new message but when I click on the Compose button nothing happens.

What is wrong?

Answer

The most likely reason for this is that you are running popup blocking software such a the Google toolbar on your workstation. This is stopping the secondary window, which allows you to compose your message, from opening.

Most popup blocking software comes with a hotkey over-ride which you can use to allow the secondary window to open. With the Google toolbar you can hold down the CTRL key while clicking on the Compose button to allow the secondary window to open.

Such software also normally allows you to specify a list of sites which blocking should not be applied to. If yours does allow this then you should enter the details of your GMS server to avoid having to invoke the hotkey each time you try an open a secondary window.

Note: Service Pack 2 for Windows XP updates the installation of Intenet Explorer to enable a popup blocker by default. Please consult your documentation for details on how to over-ride this.
