Question
Every time I try and collect mail via POP3 using Eudora v3 my mail client exceptions. The message it is trying to collect has a very long file name consisting of 2 characters followed by .bmp followed by 220 spaces and finally .bat.
Answer
The message contains a virus which has been specifically encoded with a very long file name in order to defeat content and virus scanning software.
The virus is correctly identified by GMS Anti-Virus but if it is allowed to pass through to the client (Eudora v3) the client exceptions when trying to decode the attachemnt.
Eudora support have been informed of this on 12-Aug-2002
