Why does Eudora keep exceptioning on me when collecting pop mail?

Question

Every time I try and collect mail via POP3 using Eudora v3 my mail client exceptions. The message it is trying to collect has a very long file name consisting of 2 characters followed by .bmp followed by 220 spaces and finally .bat.

Answer

The message contains a virus which has been specifically encoded with a very long file name in order to defeat content and virus scanning software.

The virus is correctly identified by GMS Anti-Virus but if it is allowed to pass through to the client (Eudora v3) the client exceptions when trying to decode the attachemnt.
