Why do pop-up alarms disappear when they go off in MS Outlook but not when they go off in GMS Webmail?

GMS Webmail has a concept of an alarm that has "gone off" and so maintains the alarm but with the status changed to indicate that it has already run. MS Outlook does not provide this facility.

Depending on which client performs the pop-up alarm will depend on whether it is marked as "gone off" or simply deleted.
