Why do I get Perfmon errors in the Event log?

Question

When I start the Gordano services I get an Error in the Event Log relating to Perfmon. What does this mean and how can I fix it?

Answer

This is most likely due to Perfmon running at the time of your last Gordano Upgrade. Since it was running during the upgrade the services were unable to update their Perfmon Objects properly. This can be resolved as follows.

  • Start a DOS prompt by clicking the Start button, selecting "Run" from the list of options and then typing "cmd" in the entry dialog. Clicking on "OK" will then display the Dos prompt window.
  • Change to the directory where the GMS executables are installed. This is usually C:Gordanobin.
  • Type the following commands:

    c:gordanobin> mail -stop
    c:gordanobin> smtp -u
    c:gordanobin> pop -u
    c:gordanobin> imap -u
    c:gordanobin> www -u
    c:gordanobin> list -u
    c:gordanobin> post -u

    c:gordanobin> smtp -i
    c:gordanobin> pop -i
    c:gordanobin> imap -i
    c:gordanobin> www -i
    c:gordanobin> list -i
    c:gordanobin> post -i
    c:gordanobin> mail -start

This issue only affects installations of GMS on Windows.
