Why can some of my users not create or reply to email in WebMail Professional?

Question

Try to compose/forward/reply using GMS Webmail Professional and the new compose window will not open due to a javascript error similar to the following:

Line : 102
Char: 9
Error: The URI to be decoded is not a valid encoding
Code: 0
URL :
http://server.domain:8000/webmail/masterwindow.mml?button=compose&autompletinit=

The upgrading of addresses to a new format was required to allow use of UTF-8 characters to fully support multi language operation.

Answer

The problem is due to an error in the upgrade of addresses used by the autocomplete feature within GMS Webmail. Disabling the Autocomplete feature will allow GMS Webmail to be used correctly in the short term.

Ultimately the problem can be fixed by editing any address book entries that contain non ASCII characters and correcting the content of the affected entries.

Unfortunately this is a manual process but is a one time requirement. This problem will not affect builds of GMS later than 3461.

The AutoComplete feature can be disabled from the Preferences > Composing Mail page within GMS Webmail.
