Why are Viruses being found but not disinfected?

Question

Viruses may be contained in the body of a message and any of its attachments. GMS Anti-Virus will scan all parts of the message for viruses.

Answer

When a message is sent by Outlook using RTF (rich text format), a special file called winmail.dat is composed which contains formating information and attachments.

Winmail.dat is a proprietary Microsoft file format and while we have sufficient information to extract files encapsulated inside a winmail.dat file and pass them through the virus checker, Microsoft do not provide sufficient information to be able to rebuild the winmail.dat file minus the virus.

In these circumstances we will warn of the existence of he virus, but if you have an action set to send the message on to the recipient they will still receive the attachment as well.
