Which files should I backup so I won't have to reconfigure the mail server if my hard disk should ever fail?

The essential file is :-

wmdata.dat – WorkgroupMail configuration file. This is located in the Workgroupmail data folder.

Other dat file that should be backed up :-

mailscan.dat – Content Filtering configuration and rules, if used. This is located in the Workgroupmail data folder.
Virussettings.dat – Virus Checker plug-in configuration, if used. This is located in the Workgroupmail data folder.
AddressBook.dat – Shared AddressBook plug-in configuration and address data, if used. This is located in the Workgroupmail data folder.
MailingLists.dat – Mailing List plug-in configuration including all mailing lists, if used. This is located in the Workgroupmail data folder.
JunkFilter.dat – General Spam Filtering configuration (v7 Pro and Ent only). This is located in the Workgroupmail data folder.
SpamCleanserSettings.dat – Spam Cleanser sensitivity configuration, if used. This is located in the Workgroupmail data folder.
Dictionaries.dat – A data file required by the Spam Cleanser service (v7 Pro and Ent only), where used. This is located in the Workgroupmail data folder.

The following is a description of other dat files that can usually be deleted without causing problems. In most cases they will be re-created automatically.

Activity.dat – Stores user account activity information and is located in the root of the user mailbox folder, datarcvdmsgsusr000000x.
Senddata.dat – Contains message send info if sending directly. This is located in SentMsgs under the Workgroupmail data folder.
Msgids.dat – Details of POP3 downloaded messages. This is located in the Workgroupmail data folder.
DNSManager.dat – A data file that holds information to optimise the use of DNS when sending directly. This is located in the Workgroupmail data folder.
Edition.dat – Can hold information regarding the version of WorkgroupMAil that is installed. This is located in the Workgroupmail data folder.
IMAPData.dat – stores IMAP activity information, if used. This file is located in the root of the user mailbox folder (usroooooox), datarcvdmsgsusr000000x.
Quarantine.dat – Configuration relating to quarantine folders (v7 Pro and Ent only). This is located in the Workgroupmail data folder.
