What is NTMail?

Question

What is NTMail, and why was it renamed to GMS Mail?

Answer

NTMail is the first email server that was written for Windows NT 3.1. It was released by Gordano Ltd (formerly Internet Shopper) in 1994 and has been updated over the last decade.

In October 2002, it was renamed GMS Mail for several reasons:

  • GMS Mail operates on Windows NT (3.5, 3.51, 4.0), 2000, XP with all service packs. In 1999, the OS application layer was enhanced to provide the same service on other operating systems and versions were released for Unix and Linux under the brand name GLMail.
  • Gordano’s products now cover a much larger range than "just email". For example, we provide GMS Mobile Gateway, GMS Web Organizer, GMS Communication Server, GMS Instant Messenger, etc.
  • When NTMail was launched, it was the only messaging server for Windows NT. Microsoft has stopped supporting Windows NT and released Windows 2000, XP, etc. so the name with “NT” suggests that our products do not run on later versions of the Windows platforms.

If you were looking to purchase the award winning NTMail, then you need to look for “GMS Mail”.
