What is a Hoax Virus?

Answer

A hoax in virus terms normally comes in one of two guises.

  1. a message that is designed to frighten you into taking some unwarranted action such a deleting critical files from your operating system.
  2. a message that is designed to encourage you to propogate the message as widely as possible, it might for instance ask you to pass it on to everyone in your address book.

The best action in both cases is to simply delete the message.

The functionality built into GMS Anti-Spam can help you detect and reject such messages before they enter your system. This will not only help you protect your users from these messages, but also allow you to protect your bandwidth by curtailing the propagation of such messages through your server.
