What are the "IMAPSendLineLog" failures that I see in my IMAP log?

Question

I was reviewing the contents of my IMAP logs and noted a number of failure entries (lines marked " F "). For example:
F 6405 136 IMAPSendLineLog status = 103, line = ZZZZ OK LOGOUT completed

What do these failures mean?

Answer

The log entry means that the GMS IMAP service has sent a response to the client but the response was not received by that client. In this case the client has issued the command ZZZZ LOGOUT to end it’s session. GMS has responded with ZZZZ OK LOGOUT completed but the client has already dropped the connection without waiting for this response. Consequently the IMAP service writes a line to the log to record the fact that the OK LOGOUT completed was not received by the client.
