POP Clients time out downloading large messages

Question

POP clients on dialup connections time out while trying to retrieve large messages.

Answer

If your users are complaining of this problem, try adding an entry to the registry of TimePOPClient: REG_DWORD and setting it to a timeout period of 600. If the problem persists at this level then increase it in increments of 100 until the problem disappears.

If this setting is using the default value (120 secs) then there wil not be an existing entry in the registry and you will need to create it. It should be placed under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareInternetShopperMailParameters.
