How do I control which Address Books are used with the GMS Webmail address completion feature?

Question

I would like to restrict my users from having access to certain address books with regards the GMS Webmail address completion feature. How do I do his?

Answer

You can set a variable at either System, Domain or User levels specifying the address books that users can access. There is no user interface to this particular setting therefore it must be set up directly in the appropriate Support > Variables page.

The variable you need to set is WebMailAddressAutoCompleteOptions which takes as a value a formatted string of the form:

<subbooks>:<booktypes>:<limit>

where subbooks is 1 or 0 controlling if subbooks are searched, booktypes is a bitmask of allowed address book types and limit is the maximum number of entries allowed, if this is exceeded then autocomplete is disabled. -1 means an unlimited number of entries.

The default value for the variable is "1::1000" which enables access to subbooks, includes all address book types up to a limit of 1000 entries.
