Question
I have noticed that a hotfix has become available for my GMS server and am not sure how to apply it?
Answer
Hotfixes to the GMS are normally released as individual files and as such do not come with an installation program. However installing such hotfixes are relatively straighforward.
If you are running on the windows operating system:
- Open a command prompt and change to the gordanobin directory.
- Type “mail -stop” and press Enter.
- Make a copy of the existing file with the extension “.old”.
- Copy the new file on top of the existing one.
- Type “mail -start” and press Enter
If you are running on Unix based operating system:
- Open a command prompt and change to the /gordano/mail/bin directory.
- Type “./glmail stop” and press Enter.
- Make a copy of the existing file with the extension “.old”.
- Copy the new file on top of the existing one.
- Type “./glmail start” and press Enter
Taking a copy of the existing files prior to replacing with the new one is recommended as hotfixes do not undergo the intensive level of regression testing that full product releases go through. There may therefore be an occasion when you need to revert to the original files, but this is unlikely.
