How can I tune the TCP/IP stack on AIX?

Question

By default the TCP/IP timer on AIX runs with a default interval of 200 milliseconds, that is, it introduces a 200 millisecond delay between each TCP/IP transaction. How can I improve the performance?

Answer

Improving the performnance of the TCP/IP stack on AIX is straightforward. Open a command shell and run the following command

no -o fasttimo=50

This will have the effect of setting the timer to have an interval of 50 milliseconds, which gives a marked improvement in performance.
