How can I perform a manual free/busy check?

Symptoms

The meeting scheduling function in Outlook cannot find any free/busy information for the specified user.

Resolution

This procedure does not necessarily resolve any problems but it does perform a manual test to determine whether the WorkgroupShare free/busy server is working as expected.

Detail

To do a manual free/busy query, open Internet Explorer and type the following on the address bar:-

http://WorkgroupShare_server:8109/mailboxname

Where you will need to enter the computer name or IP address of your server and the mailbox part (the bit before the @ symbol) of the users email address. Press Enter twice to display the data correctly aligned.

eg. http://192.168.0.1:8109/joeb

The results should look something like:-

BEGIN:VCALENDAR
VERSION:2.0
METHOD:PUBLISH
BEGIN:VFREEBUSY
ORGANIZER:Unknown
DTSTAMP:20040402T122936Z
DTSTART:20040326T122936Z
DTEND:20361231T235900Z
FREEBUSY:20040326T180000Z/20040326T190000Z
FREEBUSY:20040912T093000Z/20040912T100000Z
FREEBUSY:20041005T120000Z/20041005T140000Z
FREEBUSY:20041124T190000Z/20041124T200000Z
END:VFREEBUSY
END:VCALENDAR

This shows the start and end date of the whole query and the start and end dates and times of each busy period. This includes any private entries, in that particular calendar, that are marked as busy. Each FREEBUSY entry describes a busy period as follows

FREEBUSY:Start(YYYYMMDD”T”HHMMSS”Z”)/End(YYYYMMDD”T”HHMMSS”Z”)
