Can the Spam Filtering in WorkgroupMail be applied to certain users only?

Symptoms

Not all local users want spam filtering applied to their received messages. WorkgroupMail can be configured to apply spam filtering to a subset of one or more users only.

Resolution

This is possible by using Spam Filtering in conjunction with a specific rule in Content Filtering. The Spam Filtering must be configured to ‘Mark message as junk mail to be processed by Content Filtering’. The Content Filtering must include a rule such as the one below

More Info

Note: Content Filtering is integrated into WorkgroupMail v8 and WorkgroupMail v7 Enterprise, but for WorkgroupMail v7 Professional the Content Filtering plug-in needs to be installed and licenced. If you do not have the Content filtering plug-in then it is recommended that you upgrade to WorkgroupMail v8. Click here for details.

Detail

To apply spam filtering to a subset of one or more users only or to exclude certain users from the spam filtering process, create a rule in Content Filtering as follows:-

Junk Mail rule 1
Check all messages. If message is junk mail and message sent to User1, User2 or User3 and message not sent from MailScan quarantine message to Junk Quarantine and inform intended recipients with Junk message quarantined

Set the message Subject to:
Junk message quarantined

Set the message body to:
The following message was identified as junk mail and has been quarantined.

Subject: <Subject>
Sender: <SenderName>, <SenderAddress>
Date: <Sent>

or, to exclude certain users from the Spam Filtering process…

Junk Mail rule 2
Check all messages. If message is junk mail and message not sent to User1, User2 or User3 and message not sent from MailScan quarantine message to Junk Quarantine.
