Can I run NTList with another mail server?

Question

I already have an Exchange server managing my company’s e-mail. I am interested in GMS List Server but want to know if it will work in conjunction with MS Exchange.

Answer

GMS List Server will work quite happily with any mail server. There are three ways you can set this up depending on your requirements.

1) While it is possible to set up GMS List Server with another mail server (see below), it is far easier to let GMS List Server manage the lists itself. To do this give the NTList machine a sub-domain of the domain you have running on your mail server. For example if your domain is &quotcompany.dom&quot create the sub-domain &quotNTList.company.dom&quot and set up DNS so that this points to the machine that GMS List Server is installed on. GMS List Server will handle the rest.

2) If you still want all mail to go through your existing mail server then install GMS List Server on a separate machine and tell it to collect from a POP account you have created on the mail server. You can tell GMS List Server to collect from a POP account from the List>incoming page of the GMS List Server interface. GMS List Server can either handle the posting of messages itself or you can direct outgoing posts through your existing mail server by entering the server’s details on the Post>outgoing page of the GMS List Server interface.

3) You can install GMS List Server on the same machine as your existing mail server. During the install you will be asked if you want GMS List Server to use a different SMTP port. Say yes to this option and continue the install. Next configure NTList to collect from a POP account on your mail server. Do this from the List>Incoming page of the interface.
